Adolescents and the idea of therapy are incompatible. Teenagers often feel they are brought into therapy to be "fixed" when perceptually they see their parents as the evildoer. In reality though, we all contribute to the family health and pain and yet it is easy to find a family "target or black sheep" and feel that the energy must go there. When teens and parents are able to not only tolerate each other more, but also consider the strengths that each brings to the process of change, therapy can be a life-changing process that needn't take years or even months. Sometimes change can happen is very few sessions. The possibilities for therapy to be successful lies in the willingness of those who come through the door.
